Benefits of getting a small dog

Dog Breeds Guide

Dogs are wonderful pets. They shower you with plenty of love and affection. Moreover, owning a dog is said to produce a calming effect to their owners, and are also helpful in lowering high blood pressure.

But what kind of dog is right for you? Should you get a small dog or a big dog? And if you decide to get a small dog, what are your choices? Which small dog is right for you?

Nowadays, more and more pet owners are choosing to get a small dog rather than a big dog. One obvious reason is that a small dog is very convenient and practical to own. A small dog does not require a big place. You do not have to live in a big house with a big yard to own a small dog. In fact, you can live in a small studio apartment and still be able to keep a small dog without any difficulty.

A small dog is also perfect for an elderly person, especially those living alone. And although small dogs require more exercise than large dogs, they usually get enough of it from just running around the house or apartment.

What types of dog leashes are available?

Dog Breeds Guide

Having the proper equipment is very important for successful dog training. It enables you and your dog to get through the training with much ease and less frustrations. The essential equipment that you would need to train your dog effectively is a dog leash, a dog collar, and a lot of food treats to reward him for a job well done.

A dog leash is a type of equipment that is purely functional. It does not have to be fancy or elaborately designed because your dog does not care what his dog leash looks like and it does not affect his training at all. The two important aspects to consider when getting the right dog leash is that is should be made with the proper material and that it should fit your dog well.

A good dog leash should be six feet long. It is usually made of nylon, leather, or cotton webbing. You should never use a chain leash. Even if your dog does not chew on it the way he might chew on cotton, nylon, or leather leash, a chain leash will hurt your hands and could also bang against your dog.

Make sure to get a dog leash that fits your dog perfectly. If you have a toy dog, it may be a little hard to find lightweight dog leashes with small snaps that will fit him perfectly. With a small toy dog breed, you may want to try making the dog leash yourself.

On the other hand, if you have a large dog, you do not need a dog leash that is strong enough to hold a horse. A dog leash made of double layers of nylon tends to be stiff and a large bolt snap could hit your dog in the eye and could cause a serious injury. A 5/8 inch wide leash is ideal and should be all that is required even for the largest dog.

A dog leash that is made of cotton web is also a good type of dog leash. Cotton leashes tend to soften as you handle them. Another benefit of getting a cotton leash is that it is usually cheaper than nylon or a leather leash, which is a big plus point especially if you have the tendency to leave it lying around where your dog can easily find it and chew on it.

A retractable dog leash is a great leash for your dog. It’s a type of dog leash that gives your dog more freedom while reducing the problem of tangling associated with a regular long dog leash. Retractable dog leash usually comes in sixteen and twenty six foot length with different strengths fitting for dogs of different weights. The handle has a button acting as a brake that stops the leash from extending.
